What You Will Do

  • Lead voyage chartering for dry bulk cargoes, including urea and other fertilisers, working with shipbrokers and owners to fix suitable tonnage.
  • Negotiate charter party terms, including freight, laytime and demurrage, and manage recaps through to signed charter parties.
  • Oversee voyage execution: nominations, load and discharge port coordination, surveys and inspection, and cargo documentation including bills of lading.
  • Calculate laytime and settle demurrage and despatch claims.
  • Build voyage estimates and freight cost models to support pricing on CFR and CIF sales.
  • Manage shipping risk, including vessel and counterparty screening, marine cargo insurance, and alignment with sales contracts and letters of credit.

  • Lead, mentor and grow the shipping operations team, setting standards for execution, controls and reporting.

What You Bring

  • At least 5 years of experience in dry bulk chartering or operations with a shipowner, charterer, trader or shipbroker.
  • Proven experience leading and developing a team of chartering or operations staff.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to negotiate with owners, brokers and counterparties at a senior level.
  • Able to build processes, controls and management reporting for shipping operations.
  • Hands-on experience with voyage charters on handysize and supramax vessels, and familiarity with standard charter party forms such as GENCON.
  • Strong command of laytime and demurrage calculations.
  • Sound understanding of Incoterms and letter of credit documentary requirements.
  • Degree in maritime studies, business or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel.
